Mallard  Anas platyrhynchos

Found throughout North America and all across Eurasia favoring fresh water it is one of the most familiar of ducks with numbers exceeding 15 million birds.  It is the ancestor of most strains of domestic ducks, often breeding with wild mallards producing a variety of forms.
The fast flying bird is omnivorous, feeding on plant material as well as aquatic insects, crustaceans, frogs and small fish.
