Blue-winged Teal  Anas discors

Fast in flight this small duck breeds across much of the central and northern United States and Canada although, generally absent from most of North America during the cold months.  Favoring fresh water marshes and ponds its diet consists mainly of seeds of various grasses.
The Blue-winged Teal migrates long distances and arrives late in spring to its breeding grounds and then is one of the first to migrate south in the fall
