Black Vulture  Coragyps atratus
Black Vulture  Coragyps atratus

Residing in the southeastern United States the Black Vulture is often seen in flocks.  With a height of up to 27 in. and a wing span of up to 59 in. it is slightly smaller than the more solitary Turkey Vulture.
Although a bird of open country it nests and roosts in forests usually on the ground or inside large tree cavities.
Feeding mainly on carrion it also eats the eggs and nestlings of birds, newborn mammals and some plant material.
