American Kestrel  Falco sparverious

American Kestrel  Falco sparverious

Often seen along roadsides this falcon of open country is one of the most widespread and the smallest falcon in North America.  Kestrels are cavity nesters favoring the edge habitat of woodlands and farmland, feeding on a mainly lager insects, especially grasshoppers, birds, reptiles and small mammals.
Nest boxes have helped to maintain and stabilize populations where habitat has disappeared.
